Maui, a young boy, decided to build a special kite one day. He used his mother's strong cloth, bamboo sticks, and branches from a shrub to make it. Maui wanted a special wind to fly his kite really high, so he went to the Keeper-of-the-Winds. She gave him a small gourd with a gentle breeze, and Maui's kite flew beautifully.
The Keeper told Maui to respect the winds, and not take them for granted. Maui went back the next day, wanting even stronger winds, but he didn't listen to the Keeper's advice. He called for the Four Great Winds, and they caused a big storm. His kite flew away and the winds raged all over the island.
Maui learned his lesson and built another, smaller kite. He used it to predict the weather for the village people. They started calling him 'Teacher-of-the-Weather'. Maui never again tried to control the winds.
Difference in Maui: At the beginning, Maui was excited and wanted to fly his kite high. But after the storm, he became wiser and helped people with his kite's weather predictions.
Nature Lesson: The story teaches us to respect nature and not try to control it. It also shows that we can learn from the signs in nature.
